Bright Living Room Reveal | Altadore Project

We love designing a room that appears right off an entryway—it sets the tone for the rest of the home, wows your guests, and beckons you inside after a long day. This Altadore home had a living room that was steps away from the front door, and we transformed it into nothing short of a warm hug for the eyes. Does that even make sense? Who cares! We are beyond ecstatic with how this project turned out, and we think you will be too.

Our clients' priority was to make the living space "classy and sophisticated [and on trend] without being too fussy." They wanted the space to reflect the rest of the main floor, which included a fabulous kitchen, dining room, and powder room. They felt that their previous living room setup was dull and dark and needed a much more modern look. We couldn't have agreed more. To say their old living room lacked energy would be an understatement. We needed to get in there and create a special space befitting this beautiful home.

A monochromatic colour palette should never be boring, so we incorporated subtle patterns and textures everywhere we could. The intricate lines and shapes in the 3D art, the patterned and furred cushions, and the geometric detail in the area rug added depth and interest.

The fabric we chose for the custom upholstered accent chairs had an almost denim look to it but with a bit of a sheen and a velvety feel. How we wish you could reach into this blog post and run your fingers over it. When will such technology be available?

Our clients needed window treatments that provided privacy, and in true DWK form, we proposed custom drapery! We called this one a piano key print. The fabric was mostly white with grey embroidery in the shape of piano keys—subtle and stunning. We were so glad they went for it because the panels delicately framed the large window and created another perfect focal point in the space.

The built-in shelves and fireplace opposite the sitting area was another focal point. We were so looking forward to accessorizing and styling this side of the space. We didn't skimp out on textures, shapes, or metals. We mixed them all, and the result was an eclectically sophisticated collection of new accessories and old. If you're looking for some hot tips on how to style your shelves, we collaborated with Avenue magazine to compile our tricks so that you can take the shelfie of your dreams! Adding greenery to a space makes it come alive. It immediately feels cozier and adds colour.
