Auburn Bay Project | Home Office Reveal

We hope you enjoyed the living room reveal of this project in last week's blog post because today we're sharing the home office we designed for the same clients. As we discussed last week, one of the challenges we had with this project was incorporating the clients' many family heirlooms into a light and modern design. Fortunately, we were able to display and highlight more of their antique treasures in their home office.

Before we could get to that, though, we had to make this space functional for the husband, who works from home. We had a clean slate to work with, so we focused on lighting, comfort, and usability. This space is also right off the entryway, so we really wanted it to have an impact and set the stage for the rest of the home. This made showcasing their large antique gold medallion an obvious choice - its size alone is enough to make a statement, not to mention its intricate design. Leaning toward a masculine vibe, we proposed a desk with a modern yet antiqued gold frame and a rustic wood top. We then found two open shelving systems (étagères) with lots of real estate for showcasing collectibles and newer purchases. We loved how the brushed gold and the varying heights of the shelves complemented each object—which actually made it easier to style and accessorize.

The large space could accommodate more than just a desk, so a casual seating nook was essential. The accent chair is a mix of fabric, leather, and metal for that gentleman's-club feel, complemented with a white and gold floor lamp for additional light and a small accent table for setting tea and books. We finished off the space with custom drapery panels in a neutral, monochromatic silk and embroidery fabric, and a dark area rug with curved lines to ground the furniture pieces and bring the whole space together.
