Mahogany New Build Project | Living Room Reveal
Today we’re showing off quite the transformation. This empty space went from dark and gloomy to bright and cheery. Our clients moved in to their new home without any existing furniture—just their clothes!—so we were lucky enough to work with a blank slate. They didn’t want to buy anything until they found the perfect fit for their home, family, and style.
The homeowners wanted a living space that was both functional and inviting. They were also especially keen on maximizing the view of the lush green ravine behind their home.
As you can see, the space was quite dark with the selections that were made by the builder. We kept that in mind when putting together our design ideas. We knew we needed to brighten it up for this young, vibrant family!
We created a conversational sitting area that focused on function and comfort, without compromising the view. Our clients can enjoy the sweeping ravine while sitting on the two custom turquoise accent chairs that face the ravine, or the adjacent cream-coloured ottomans. Choosing a low back on the custom neutral sofa was another way to maximize the view. For that extra level of coziness, we added an oversized tufted ottoman and soft area rug.
To make the space feel larger and brighter, we flanked the fireplace with two gorgeous window-like mirrors, which also gave the room the wow factor it deserved.
The husband loves to sit in the left turquoise chair and gaze out the window at their beautiful view! Wouldn’t you?
The main floor of the home was open concept, so separating the living room and dining area was key. Placing two small ottomans between the spaces not only provided extra seating but also kept the sight lines free and clear. The homeowners could easily converse with friends or family from the dining area, kitchen, or living room.
Cream and white neutrals mixed with turquoise accents provided the perfect palette to bring the outside in and lighten up the space. The durable fabrics on each piece of furniture will ensure longevity with young kids and cats. We only wish you could sink into the sofa and feel the silky-smooth luxury of the down-filled back pillows.
What do you think of the final look? Isn’t it crazy what a little colour and a few soft touches can do? Let us know your favourite part of this space in the Comments section below. We’d love to hear from you.
